TERMS AGREED: Man United have reached the final stage of negotiation to secure the signing of Euro 2024 best player, agreement reached last night after Man united accepts to trigger player’s release clause
Man Utd have a number of wingers in the squad like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.
However, with the exception of the Argentinian youngster and Diallo to an extent, none of the others impressed last term.
Going into the new season, Erik ten Hag is backing immensely on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to rediscover their best levels. If not, Man Utd could have yet another season where they struggle on the wings.
The other solution to this could be to sign someone proven who can come in and hit the ground running right away. As per Spanish publication SPORT [image at the end], the player who is most liked by Man Utd is Barcelona winger, Raphinha.
The 27-year-old Brazilian does not want to leave the Spanish club this summer and has made this clear to the decision-makers. However, Barcelona need to make a sale and Raphinha is one of those players they might get a good sum for.
To make room for his signing, Man Utd are willing to sell the likes of Antony and Sancho this summer. Both players were signed for huge sums by the Red Devils but their careers at Old Trafford have been riddled with controversies.
Man Utd want £40m to sell Sancho. They are willing to accept offers of around just £25m to part ways with Antony. This would give the club a total of £65m should these deals go through. This would give them the funds to sign Raphinha, who Barcelona value at around £51m.
Raphinha is no stranger to the Premier League, having already played for Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa.
He will not be the first player to cross the Leeds-Man Utd divide in his career and the fact that he is not doing it directly should take a certain sting out of it.
The 27-year-old Brazilian has been very consistent for Barcelona in his two seasons at the club but doesn’t receive the plaudits like some of his teammates.
A move to Man Utd could help be finally recognized as one of the top creative wingers in the world. Let’s see if the deal goes through this summer.
