Jack Grealish tipped to show ‘the best of him’ at Man City after England snub

Manchester City’s record signing Jack Grealish was one of the highest-profile absentees from England’s Euro 2024 squad but the playmaker is looking to make up for lost time

Former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott expects Jack Grealish to use his Euro 2024 heartbreak as motivation to rediscover his best form.

Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa in a £100m move in 2021, had a difficult end to the 2023-24 season. He still made it into Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for the Euros, featuring in a warm-up friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but was cut from the final 26.

The 28-year-old responded by putting in the extra hours in pre-season. He trained privately at Juventus’ facilities, before making an early return to link up with Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of the new campaign.

Lescott was a team-mate of Grealish’s at Villa Park when they suffered relegation from the Premier League In 2016. He has seen the playmaker bounce back before, and told Mirror Football he wouldn’t be surprised to see his old colleague back to his best this term.

“Jack isn’t surprising me in what he’s doing and what he’s done,” Lescott said. “He was always seen as a talent and his contribution for any team he plays regularly for.
