Oyedele joined Erik ten Hag’s squad for the club’s pre-season tour of America this summer and would have been hoping to cement his place in a similar fashion to his teammates.
However, competition is fierce in the middle of the pitch at United with Toby Collyer emerging as Ten Hag’s preferred choice from the younger cohort on the tour, while the re-emergence of Casemiro, whose prospective move to the Saudi Pro League never materialised, added another competitor to overcome.
Similarly, United are also locked in negotiations over a deal to sign PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte with the expectation a €60 million move could be agreed before the end of the summer window.
Whether the deal is a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy clause for the Uruguayan international remains to be seen.
As such, Oyedele’s route to the first-team at Old Trafford was limited and it appears both the club and the player have agreed the best step for the next stage of his career lies away from Manchester.
Romano reveals the move to Legia Warsaw will “include a sell-on clause” as has been a consistent inclusion for United when selling young players in recent years.
Legia Warsaw are currently top of Ekstraklasa with ten points from the opening five games of the season and Oyedele will be hoping he can help his new team maintain this position come the end of the year.
